This week Social Good Moms’ members share their best breastfeeding advice. See previous advice and stories from our World Breastfeeding Week series.
Be kind to yourself, it’s not always perfectly easy! Don’t be afraid to ask for help and guidance. – Lisa, @aboutproximity
I didn’t think I could breastfeed, but a little music to help baby and I relax made it no problem at all. – Amethyst Moon, @Amethyst_M
Relax–and remember that, while breastfeeding is portrayed as an instinctual activity–there is often still a learning curve for both mom and baby. It takes time to settle into a comfortable routine–and every mom and baby is an individual. Relax and be patient with yourself as you and your baby “learn” this new skill. The first few weeks are the toughest–so try not to be discouraged if breastfeeding is more difficult than the “natural experience” you expected. It gets easier as you and your child become “pros” over time! – Angela, @mymamasworld
Listen to advice, but above all do what works for you and your baby. – Kylie, @kjworthington
Hang in there and don’t let the pro-formula advocates plant the seeds of doubt in your mind. If you’re struggling, find support. Try to avoid complaining to your non-breastfeeding friends and family members. Don’t open the door for their discouragement. – Hana, @TheGreenGrandma
Dont give up too easily. If it does not seem to be going well or if you are having issues with latching, milk production and such, seek out the assistance from a local lactation consultant, there are usually some at the hospitals as well. Have patience, it does not come as easy for everyone and with patience you can become a pro in no time! – Katie, @kasexton
Don’t give up and find a good support group. – Kelly, @amothersdesign
