One thing I have believed for the past 14 years, as the founder of Social Good Moms, is that influencers can use their voices to drive change. Most times, people think big problems can only be solved by experts in the field, non-profits and NGOs, or countries’ billions of dollars. I argue that awareness can be driven by people who use social media and blogging as a hobby or a business to lend authenticity to big issues they care most about. In this climate of no USAID and an economy where everyday people are deciding whether to donate or buy gas and food, civil society matters, and influencers matter.

My voice as a mother, blogger, and social media influencer mattered more than I initially thought. Social Good Moms took me around the world to report on maternal health, newborn and child health, and infectious diseases. Now, I know that moms’ voices are tantamount to influencing friends and readers about global health or domestic issues that organizations sometimes are challenged to attain for awareness and fundraising.
