Carolina for Kibera (CFK) is an international non-profit working to alleviate poverty, develop leaders, and catalyze positive change in Kibera, Kenya, one of the world’s largest slums. Rooted in the conviction that solutions to poverty are possible only if the poor themselves drive development, CFK realizes its mission through a locally-run network of programs: the Sports Association, the Daughters United young women’s empowerment group, the Sexual Reproductive Health Program, the Education Program, and the Trash is Cash waste management and recycling initiative. In addition, CFK provides high-quality, affordable medical care through the Tabitha Medical Clinic. Collectively, CFK’s programs reach tens of thousands of Kiberans each year. Promoting ethnic and gender cooperation in all programs, CFK envisions a Kibera where all are healthy, safe, and self-sufficient. Learn more about CFK at cfk.unc.edu.
