2013 flew by. It flew by so fast that it’s a little difficult to remember the greatest moments of 2013. There really were a lot of them. That said, here are some of the top Social Good Moms’ moments of 2013. We are excited about the new year and everything we will accomplish together for good in 2014.

1. 2013 saw the first insight trips for Social Good Moms members. In May Nicole Melancon travelled to Delhi, India and reported about global health and development after visiting our partners Save the Children, WaterAid, and Pratham. We also visited an amazing organization, Protsahan, that helps street-affected girls in Delhi’s slums. In October Elizabeth Atalay reported from South Africa about women helping women in South Africa as well as global health. And, finally in December Stacey Weckstein reported from Indonesia with Save the Children’s Every Beat Matters’ team about frontline health workers.

2. Melinda Gates bestowed kind words to the team via Twitter and also gave us a shout-out in her Blogher video. We will always be extremely grateful for the vote of confidence.

3.  We reached 2000 members this year. The greater our numbers the greater our impact!

4. Social Good Moms met Save the Children’s President and CEO, Carolyn Miles, at the We Can Be Heroes event in New York City. Social Good Moms members also got the opportunity to meet with Save the Children during the Blogher conference in Chicago.

5. We collaborated with the Gates Foundation and Gates Senior Fellow, Dr. Gary Darmstadt, on spreading critical information about newborn health via blog posts, several Youtube videos featuring our members’ birth stories as well as during a Twitter chat that trended nationally.

6. Our most dedicated members of the Global Team of 200 wrote hundreds upon hundreds of posts for social good all chronicled on our Tumblr blogs: Global Team of 200, Advocating for the First Hour, Celebrating World Water Day, Advocating for Newborn Health, and Haikus for Newborns.

7. To round out our global health and development coverage I reported on HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, food insecurity and poverty as both an International Reporting Project Zambia and Tanzania fellow. I was also invited to cover the Power of One campaign with Malaria No More in October.

8. We received fantastic press coverage including being featured twice in Forbes and in Philanthropy.

With a network established over a decade of child-rearing, finance, health and nutrition careers and all the gear tahat goes into family life these days, mom bloggers are increasingly active in supporting charity, raising money and organizing around social causes – Tom Watson, Forbes

9. We published a report in February 2013 about Moms and Social Giving. Read the results and see the infographic.

10. We brought on amazing new NGOs and nonprofit partners this year including Kangu, WaterAid, Marie Stopes International, Oxfam, and Jhpiego.

11. We partnered with Save the Children on a highly impactful 24 hour breastfeeding campaign where we shared stories, videos, and tweets about Save the Children’s report on the critical importance of breastfeeding in the first hour after birth.

A few fun facts: most people come to our site searching for family planning information and resources. We were able to increase our readership this year by 20%. Our most read article was HBO Presents New Documentary About Poverty: American Winter.

We had a fantastic 2013 and can’t wait to get to work this year.
