Today the New York Times announced that President Obama nominated Jim Young Kim to head the World Bank. Why this is so important is because Kim, a physician and the current president of Dartmouth, is also a founder of Partners in Health and headed the World Health Organization‘s department on HIV/AIDS. Obama chose Kim because he would put key emphasis on health for the poor.
On another note about the World Bank, I discovered earlier this week that they have a whole host of information on their web site, particularly on the World Bank blogs. I was actually amazed by all of the information they have about work that is going on on the ground in developing nations. There are lots of great reads on the World Bank blog.
