President Signed the Maternal and Child Health Stillbirth Prevention Act of 2024

My sweet mother always told me about her many births. In all, four of us lived, but many did not. Several of my would-be brothers and sisters passed away from still or crib birth. Some were named and some were not. My mother has always been extremely powerful to share her birth experiences with me many years ago when many women simply did not. That is why I am sincerely happy that our President signed the bi-partisan Maternal and Child Heal Stillbirth Prevention Act.

This bill expands the scope of the Maternal and Child Health Services Block Grant to include research and activities to prevent stillbirths.

My former Congresswoman Alma Adams Ph.D., co-founder and co-chair of the Black Maternal Health Caucus said, “Over 21,000 babies are stillborn every year, and it’s time for this silent crisis to come to an end.  “We owe it to our mothers to reduce or remove the unnecessary risks that have made pregnancy unsafe. Thanks to the Stillbirth Prevention Act, we will address this injustice so more mothers and babies experience a healthy birth and make it home with their families. I am thankful to my colleagues in Congress, President Biden, and all the advocates for helping us make this legislation the law of the land.”

Stillbirth is serious and needs to be acknowledged. I just hope people acknowledge and fund it,
